On May 25, students from the Kanazawa University Volunteer Support Station, along with their advisor, Lecturer Kaisei Harada from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (Department of Economics and Business Administration), made a special exhibition of the Noto Recovery Market at the 11th National Solar Cooker Competition in Kanazawa, held in front of Kanazawa City Hall. The market featured products from retail stores in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
Retailers in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, despite being disaster victims themselves, are actively involved in recovery, reconstruction, and support efforts for those affected. On their behalf, baked sweets (Kuma no Ouchi), Wajima chopsticks and Wajima lacquer chopsticks (Wajima Tebashiya), fish sauce and soy sauce (Tanigawa Brewery), dried goods (Wajima Morning Market), and Noto reconstruction goods (Juzo Shrine) were sold.
Although the weather was unfortunate with drizzling rain, many visitors came to the booth. As they picked up and purchased products, they offered students numerous warm words of encouragement for their support activities.
In the Okunoto region, many businesses have struggled to maintain their livelihoods due to the impact of earthquakes and heavy rain disasters, which have reduced their ability to produce goods as they did before. Additionally, a decline in the number of tourists has led to decreased sales. Through the continued organization of the Noto Recovery Market, the Kanazawa University Volunteer Support Station aims to contribute to the economic revitalization of the Okunoto region moving forward.
